£24.99

Cytoplan Omega 3 Vegan is derived from the plant marine algae Schizochytrium sp microalgae, providing both EPA and DHA. Two capsules will provide, on average, 334mg of DHA and 166mg of EPA. Ideal for vegans and vegetarians or people who do not regularly eat oily fish.

The microalgae is grown in a controlled environment, eliminating the risk of oceanic contamination & produced in an FDA-inspected facility, under current Good Manufacturing Practice (cGMP) regulations.

This Vegan omega 3 is important for optimal health because it contains DHA & EPA.

DHA contributes to:

  • maintaining normal brain function (the beneficial effect is obtained with a daily intake of 250mg of DHA)
  • promoting normal vision

I may also recommend maternal intake of DHA during pregnancy, because it contributes to the normal development of the brain and eyes of the foetus.

DHA and EPA contribute to:

  • supporting of normal blood pressure
  • maintaining normal blood triglyceride and cholesterol levels
  • the normal function of the heart

Vegan Omega 3 is one of the three supplements I consider pillars for optimal health, alongside a good probiotic and a multi vitamins/minerals.

Vegan omegas are my preferred essential fatty acid for a daily use, because they are environmentally and animal friendly. But I will prefer a fish based omegas because they may be more concentrated and therapeutic.

Omega 3 is one of the three staple supplements that practitioners recommend, alongside a multi vitamins and probiotic.

Study:

This is a study that show that: “trials of fish oil in chronic inflammatory diseases reveal significant benefit. This includes decreased disease activity and a lowered use of anti-inflammatory drugs”. “Among the fatty acids, it is the omega-3 polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFA) which possess the most potent immunomodulatory activities. Among the omega-3 PUFA, those from fish oil-eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA) and docosahexaenoic acid (DHA)–are more biologically potent. These are compared to alpha-linolenic acid (ALA). Omega-3 PUFA modulate the amount and types of eicosanoids made, which confers them their extraordinary healing properties. But also by other effects are elicited by eicosanoid-independent mechanisms. These includes actions upon intracellular signalling pathways, transcription factor activity and gene expression.

Animal experiments and clinical intervention studies indicate that omega-3 fatty acids have anti-inflammatory properties and, therefore, might be useful in the management of inflammatory and autoimmune diseases. Coronary heart disease, major depressionaging and cancer show an increased level of interleukin 1 (IL-1), a proinflammatory cytokine. Similarly, arthritis, Crohn’s disease, ulcerative colitis and lupus erythematosis are autoimmune diseases that show high level of IL-1 and the proinflammatory leukotriene LTB(4) produced by omega-6 fatty acids. There have been a number of clinical trials assessing the benefits of dietary supplementation with fish oils in several inflammatory and autoimmune diseases in humans, including rheumatoid arthritis, Crohn’s disease, ulcerative colitis, psoriasis, lupus erythematosus, multiple sclerosis and migraine headaches. Many of the placebo-controlled trials of fish oil in chronic inflammatory diseases reveal significant benefit, including decreased disease activity and a lowered use of anti-inflammatory drugs.”
