Today is the first day of the rest of your life! What are you going to do to make the most out of it?
This Acne Cleanse Programme is the result of my BSc (Hons) in Health Sciences and Clinical Nutrition and 13 years of practice. So, rest assured, I know what to do!
Some topical therapies may improve the severity of the problem, but they do not address the root cause of it. They may also negatively impact on your natural skin microbiome in the long run. Antibiotic use can also have some temporary benefits, but, yet again, they only address part of the problem. They will also most likely exacerbate the issue and give rise to other more serious conditions in the very next future. This is because they are detrimental for your digestive health and immune function.
True story: I had a client that due to severe facial acne had been prescribed antibiotics for over two years. This intervention did completely wipe out his gut microbiome and as consequence he developed psoriasis, with unresolved facial acne.
So, what can we do? Well, as always, the answer is within your body!
Although some studies reported a genetic predisposition, they also demonstrated that acne onset is majorly linked to environmental and lifestyle factors. In fact, solid research demonstrated that acne is a Western civilization disease. In fact, it is practically absent from cultures consuming diets without refined sugars, milk and other dairy products. We know that sugar and milk stimulate production of insulin and insulin like growth factor. These stimulate sebaceous lipogenesis and contribute to inflammatory pathways. Studies shows that milk consumption, in children and adults, induce insulin resistance, hyper-insulinaemia, and also raised serum IGF-1 levels. These can increase ovarian androgen production and subsequent acne in adult individuals.
Other very important aspects to consider, alongside a low glycaemic and dairies free diet, are your omega 3 to omega 6 ratio intake. Other key players are your toxins exposure, your overall animal saturated fat consumption, other pro-inflammatory foods, digestive health, alongside the right gut microbiome. You need to account for stress and other lifestyle factors too, like the quality of water you drink, exercise and there is more.
Please bear in mind that no one can promise a full recovery, but we have the strong believe that our body can self repair if we only put it in the condition to do so!
