Original price was: £28.60.Current price is: £26.40.

Viridian’s L-Tryptophan is exclusively European Pharmacopoeia grade material. L-tryptophan is an essential amino acid that plays a central role in the production of both serotonin, important for a happy mood, and melatonin, key for good sleep.
So, I will take it during the day for mood and in the evening for sleep.

L-Tryptophan is an amino acid. Amino acids are the body’s building blocks for proteins. They are classified as either ‘essential’ or ‘non-essential’. Essential amino acids cannot be made by the body, but instead must come from diet or supplementation. L-tryptophan is an essential amino acid that plays a key role in creating both serotonin and melatonin.

It is presented in its free form, which means it doesn’t require digestion, resulting in a faster absorption into the body.

L-Tryptophan 220mg has no artificial fillers or other nasties, and it is GMO or palm oil free.

Vegan and Kosher
Made in the UK

Ingredients: L-Tryptophan (EP grade) 220mg in a base of alfalfa, spirulina and bilberry.

Study:
This is an interesting study on the link between depression, L-Tryptophan and stress. This is from that study: “Depression is a major cause of worldwide disability. Although its etiology is unclear, for over sixty years the study of its pathophysiology has focused mainly on serotonin (5-HT) and serotonergic neurotransmission. Generally, the study of the pathophysiological processes underpinning depression have led to the appreciation of its complexity. Although such study continues to support the role of 5-HT in this disorder. The aim of this review is to briefly summarize the available findings on 5-HT and depression. With a special focus on alterations in tryptophan (TRP) metabolism that can shift from 5-HT synthesis towards other, potentially neurotoxic, compounds, such as the tryptophan catabolite, quinolinic acid.
The evidence that the TRP shunt may be promoted by stress hormones and proinflammatory cytokines strongly supports the notion that depression should now be considered a systemic disorder. This can be triggered by different factors that ultimately target the 5-HT system in vulnerable individuals. In addition, such intriguing findings suggest biochemical targets for novel treatment options in depression.”
